Buffalo Bill Cody did practically everything in the Wild West: scout, trapper,
Pony Express rider, and won the Congressional
Medal of Honor in 1872. He became the world's ambassador to the Wild West when
his Wild West Show premiered in Omaha in 1883. Real cowboys and Indians portrayed
the "real West. The show lasted thirty years, ten of which were in Europe,
including being a featured attraction at Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. By
the time the 20th century rolled in, Buffalo Bill Cody (thanks to his Wild West
Show) was arguably the most famous man in the Western world.
